French Bulldog Heat Safety Checker

The Velvet Frenchie Heat Safety Checker is a simple, practical tool that helps French Bulldog owners decide whether it’s safe to take their dog outside right now. Enter the temperature and humidity, tell it what you have planned, and it gives you a clear risk level with advice you can act on straight away.

French Bulldogs are a flat-faced (brachycephalic) breed, which makes it harder for them to cool down by panting. They can overheat much faster than most dogs, and humidity makes it worse, so the checker looks at more than just the temperature. It works out what the weather feels like once humidity is included, then places it on a simple scale: Low risk, Caution, Elevated risk, High risk and Danger.

The result also takes into account what you’re planning to do, such as a normal walk, play or exercise, or time in the yard. It adjusts for direct sun and hot pavement, and for puppies, seniors, overweight dogs and dogs with breathing problems, who are more vulnerable to heat. Each result comes with plain tips: when to walk, how to keep outings short, and when to skip them altogether.

You can type in the weather yourself, or use the optional “Use my local weather” button to fill in the current temperature and humidity automatically. Your location is only used once to look up the weather and is not stored. The checker is mobile-friendly, so you can use it on your phone before heading out the door.

We’ve also added a firm reminder that a parked car is never safe, even for a few minutes and even on a mild day. Every result at Caution level or above also lists the warning signs of heatstroke and what to do if you see them, because heatstroke is an emergency and quick action matters.

This checker is a general guide, not veterinary advice. Every dog is different, so keep an eye on your Frenchie’s breathing and behaviour, and when in doubt, stay inside and keep them cool. If your dog shows signs of heat stress, contact your vet or an emergency clinic straight away.

The Velvet Frenchie Heat Safety Checker is more than a tool. It’s a quick, friendly check to help keep your Frenchie safe, cool and happy all year round.
